Nigeria Suspends Prison Officials Amid Bribery Allegations Linked to Celebrity Bobrisky |
This follows claims by social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, that some officials were bribed to drop money laundering charges against Bobrisky, who has denied these allegations.
Bobrisky was released from prison last month after serving six months for currency abuse, with the court dismissing the money laundering charges. However, a leaked video purportedly featuring Bobrisky claims she paid $9,000 to EFCC officials to drop the charges, which she has called "false." She maintains that she served her sentence fully and did not pay any bribes.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have initiated investigations into the matter. In a statement, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board confirmed the suspensions of the two prison officers, emphasizing the need for further investigation into the allegations, and assured that the findings would be made public once completed.
