PASCO COUNTY, FL — As Hurricane Milton heads toward the Gulf Coast, Pasco County officials are bracing for substantial damage, with Emergency Management Director Andrew Fossa warning residents to take immediate action.
With Milton expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain, Fossa urged those who have not yet evacuated to do so as soon as possible. “We haven’t seen a storm like this in a lifetime. We are running out of time. If you are still in your home, please evacuate.”
The impending storm complicates recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, which recently left behind significant debris that could pose additional hazards. County Manager Mike Carballa expressed concern about the ongoing cleanup, stating, “When Helene was done, our estimate was three months of debris cleanup—hundreds of thousands of yards. We’re not going to accomplish that in three days.”
As the county prepares for Milton, local shelters are being opened, and emergency services are on high alert. Fossa emphasized the importance of being prepared, urging families to have emergency plans and essential supplies ready.
The National Weather Service has issued warnings for the area, predicting severe weather conditions including flooding and dangerous winds. County officials are closely monitoring the storm and will provide regular updates as the situation develops.
As residents of Pasco County brace for what could be a historic storm, authorities stress the importance of safety and preparedness in the face of Hurricane Milton.
